I research many line of my family. It actually depends on the obstacles and success I have. The main family lines I am researching right now include:
The PANCHAUD family originated in France at one time but as Huguenots, they were forced to flee to Switzerland during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries to escape religious persecution. So, that is where our line is starting for the time being, specifically from the French-speaking Canton de Vaud located in the west Switzerland.
I have come across several variants, probably due to misspelling especially in censuses, such as PANCHARD and PANCHAND. But either way, the name PANCHAUD mostly likely has something to do with baking, being that pain chaud means warm/hot bread.
The name PANCHAUD is found in several locations throughout the world. Most prominently in Switzerland and in England. But the name is also found in Australia, Bermuda, American, Scotland, South Africa, France and Germany.
